Lyric Image - Coexistence
마치 축제를 벌이듯 형이상학적 이미지들이 우주 위에서 춤을 추고 있다.
인간이 나고 자란 고향의 서정성이 인간 중심의 통념적 서정성이라면 내 작품의 서정은 시간을 거슬러 원시의 본질을 내재한 자연 그대로의 원초적 서정성을 포현하고 있다.
자연은 대립과 대립이 뒤엉켜 있는 것이 가장 자연스럽다.
태고의 불완전한 뒤엉킴 그리고 가장 찬연한 순간을 잡아내는 내 작품의 시간은 그래서 서정적이다.
설명되지 않는 무뚝뚝함의 근원에는 말이 필요 없었던, 몸짓과 색과 선으로 통용되던 서정적 시간이 살아있다.
The Relations between Ardor and Lyricism
To express lyrical abstraction. The nuance of this work’s title controls our stereotype with the feeling of softness just like a short fiction called ‘a shower’ written by Hwang Soon Won. However, setting human’s lyrical feeling aside, what about the lyricism in the image of the Nature? Like ducks paddling idly on the surface of the lake and ducks’ feet struggling diligently in the lake, the passionate circulation of life and death are being continued in the peacefulness of the rural landscape that seems eternal.
The Nature of Notion
Very first of my work was not totally abstract like this. The works were different from the trend in expression and materials that show the entwined conception and abstraction. To clearly say, I insisted the world of work that can be understood by nonmainstream as well.
It was my total insistence like a cold semi-abstraction that reconstructed my own feelings on common topic, lyricism. After that, as I went through my personal exhibitions and making my own unique style of painting, the attempts that could be seen as modified of this work were being continued. Strong solid colors and softness of pastel tone are mixed, and finally seeking for modified lyricism has started.
When the lyrical image inside of notion meets notional musicality, it gives rise to another notion. The mixture of this kind of notional images became my working motive for a while and various attempts were made. However, I realized as an artist that the more I work on it, the more I get the growing pains.
Easing Mind
The restarted lyrical image, futilely, came after easing mind. Realized once more a tragic group of people that I watched too close. As I try to catch and translate, there are things getting more complicated and that is the fundamentals of the Nature circulation itself. Inside the peacefulness of the rural landscape I was seeing from a distance, the basic instinct that struggles with live and death continuously were cycling just like the ancient times.
Symbolic mark and gestures of not regulatable actions, languages are mingled. That is already a festival. My brushwork dances together on the beat of the Nature’s passionate rhythm just like it went back to primitive times. However, that is not a description of the chaos but the performance of dynamic instinct that is mingled inside of cosmic space.
Long for the remote ages
To stare at the space of pure-white. The sun rises and declines. Pick up the brush. The notional dot, line and face solidly take their places claiming own territories. The moment I closed my eyes and opened again, the work was already done.
The persistently trained hand expressed the images inside of notion. Although I sometimes let my hand flows to the call from the sense, that is even in the boundary of the change. The form becomes simpler and enables more complicated translation.
Like throwing a festival, metaphysical images are dancing on the universe. If the lyricism of human is based on conventional lyricism comes up with their youth and hometown, my work expresses the nature itself includes the essence of basic lyricism.
My work forces neither explanation nor understanding. Since the conflict harmony of them has been harassed continuously. However, it stops as the most fantastic moment with the acquisition of eternal time after the flowing sense by fingertip. The Nature is most natural when the conflict and conflict are harmoniously harassed. The harmony human says is just an expression of the anxiety about the unpredictable future.
The incomplete convolutedness of remote times and catching the most brilliant moment. That is why the time of my work is lyrical. At the root of unexplained brusquerie, there was no reason to say. The lyrical time is alive in the use of gesture, color and line.

Time & Space, in Paradise
시간과 공간 in paradise 연작은 상처 입은 영혼들을 위한 위안과 위로 그리고 근원적 치유에 대한 갈망을 낙원에서의 상징적 판타지로 표현하고 있는 작품으로 실제의 어두움을 있는 그대로 표현하기 보다는 기쁨 중에서의 눈물이나 절망 속에서의 웃음처럼 잠재된 희망을 오히려 더 과장되게 끌어냅니다.
이것은 상처 입어왔던 삶에 대한 회피라기보다 반대로 마음 깊은 곳에 벌어진 상처를 꿰매주고 약 발라주는 일종의 긍정의 판타지입니다.
내 작품들을 통해 생명을 가진 모든 것들이 위안과 위로를 받고 아픔을 희망으로 치환시킬 수 있는 용기를 갖길 원합니다.
The purpose of my work is at feeling nostalgia of the past memory and finding sense of mental freedom to today’s every single living thing. The time constantly passed is mostly missed and remained with regrets. Sometimes, it is a pain and more than an agony or felt as a vague longing and delight. Anyhow, the memories of yesterday are the root those made me today, us at the moment whether we like it or not.
The repeated cultivation ‘time and space in paradise’ is a work describing a symbolic fantasy in the heaven about comfort, consolation for the bruised spirits and their eager for basic freedom. Instead of showing the real darkness, the work exaggeratingly drags the potential hopes out such as the tears of joy and laughter of despair. This is not a evasion from bruised life but oppositely a positive fantasy that heals the wound deep inside of mind. On the other hand, works sometimes include the symbols of atone. My work also came from several special memories I experienced.
The first memory is about an old camel that circling the same place led by a trainer’s hand and carrying spectators on its back. It was midsummer in the broiling sunshine that all the air could burn. The zoo I went simply to enjoy became the tying time and space where I faced the drying out life living with suppressed freedom.
The second memory is quite similar. It was an amusement park in midwinter that the wind could even tears the air out. An old horse were crawlingly whipped endlessly pull a huge carriage carrying spectators. The images of carriage twinkling with showy neon and a harmonious looking family inside of the carriage were too contrasted with the image of an old stumbling horse.
Zoo and amusement park are places remembered with pleasure. However, on the other hand, the memory becomes a painful memory that carries someone’s sacrifice or pain. To tell the truth, there is a deeper trauma that made me looking at another dark side of lives. The inconsolable grief that I had to let my child leaves this world first in pain made me giving up on painting.
After that, my concerns on works are how to purify and share the painful emotion people have. Am I going to describe the sadness plainly or the hope in heaven? The answer was not far from me. Drawing the emotion that eagers to be loved freely in there. Due to the answer, hope my work is a motive creating sympathy on pain and a meeting of minds rather than being shown as simply crude and bright artwork.
There is no doubt that things memories about time and space give us are all fair and each person’s trace of life support us. We, living now, will face uncontrollable and not understandable situations sometimes. Some will fall into despair and some will choose the anger or giving up. Things we have to remember when it faces are hope about the person who went earlier and consolation for person who is left. We need to remember the livings who will come after us to this world. That is the share of people who live first, I think. By my works, I hope every living thing is comforted and acquires the courage to replace the pain to hope.
